Loewenthal created this unique ‘polaroid’ in Casper, CA, near Fort Bragg. Loewenthal's series of Psychscapes are un-manipulated in-camera constructions, utilizing a combination of colored filters, lens and other optics to compress space instead of time. The results are complex evocative environments of saturated colors and a disorienting configuration of foreground and background, that reference the history of romantic landscapes while peering into the psychology of perception. Each ‘polaroid’ is unique, one-of-a-kind, shot on Loewenthal’s collection of expired pull-apart Fuji film, which is no longer produced.
Terri Loewenthal has exhibited at diverse venues including Paris Photo (Paris, France), Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, CULT Aimee Friberg Exhibitions, and Minnesota Street Galleries in San Francisco, CA, Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive (Berkeley, CA), Joshua Liner Gallery (New York, NY), and Jackson Fine Art (Atlanta, GA). Her work has been collected by Fidelity Investments and McEvoy Foundation for the Arts, and is in many notable private collections. She is also founder of The Chetwood, a residency program that provides housing for artists visiting the Bay Area. Loewenthal is a frequent collaborator with the Bay Area arts organization Creative Growth (Oakland, CA). She has a Bachelor of Arts from Rice University in Houston, Texas and is originally from Washington, D.C. and South Florida.
