“This piece (Two in Elm) is part of a small series of prints, done in 2016 for an exhibition in Tokyo. Each print was hand inked and burnished from a slice of a log at the studio. This process is part of the ongoing exploration and endless learning of the nature of the material.”

Ido Yoshimoto (b. 1978) was born and raised in Inverness, CA, and has worked as an artist and arborist for the past twenty years. Through his experience and understanding of the raw material, Ido explores the capabilities and natural qualities of the wood. Yoshimoto sources wood locally in Northern California and carves and sculpts the material with hand held tools. The chainsaw is also a primary tool, allowing him to work on a large scale, making dramatic cuts and creating texture. Most of Yoshimoto’s recent work has been sculptural and functional – large seating arrangements, tables, and architectural features. He enjoys the challenge of creating something both beautiful and functional. Besides large-scale artworks and installations, hand-held wooden objects and tools, Ido makes prints directly from the grain of wood.
