My collages on vintage book boards provide an opportunity to work portably and spontaneously while exploring the same issues I address in my larger works. After several years, this series continues during quarantine while my workspace is limited to a table.
Visual artist Leigh Wells constructs abstract collages and drawings of found materials, paper, and fabric with painted accents and interventions. She is a visiting artist at Minnesota Street Studios in San Francisco.
As an internationally exhibiting artist, her work has been shown in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, Hamburg and Amsterdam. Bay Area solo shows include Gregory Lind Gallery, Ampersand International Arts, and Gallery 16 in San Francisco. Her "Mind Reader" series is currently presented at Markel Fine Arts in New York.
Leigh's work appears frequently in The New York Times and Harper’s Magazine, and has been featured in Elle Decor among other publications. She earned a BFA summa cum laude from the University of San Francisco with further study at the San Francisco Art Institute, Crown Point Press and Parsons/The New School, New York where she was an instructor.
